Global Poker launched a new championship season built around its GOAT series, combining a tournament schedule, freerolls and leaderboard prizes into one summer run. The package tied together four of the operator’s series, GOAT, Eagle Cup, Grizzly Games and Rattlesnake Open.
The GOAT series officially started on July 15 and ran through Aug. 4, with Card Player saying it carried total guarantees of 965 million Gold Coins and 2.23 million Sweeps Coins. The finish was set for Aug. 4, when the two main events guaranteed 40 million Gold Coins and 200,000 Sweeps Coins.
The series opened a day earlier with two special freerolls on July 14, offering 2 million Gold Coins and 5,000 Sweeps Coins to anyone with a Global Poker account. Card Player also reported that Global Poker planned pop-up freerolls every weekend, along with new Saturday mystery bounty events and 216 Gold Coin and Sweeps Coin events.
Players were also told to chase the GOAT leaderboard for extra rewards and prizes. Global Poker said the broader championship season would crown an “ultimate Global Poker champion.”
The season’s structure reached beyond one series. The top two players from each leaderboard were to earn a place in either the online Gold Coin final or a live Sweeps Coin showdown in Las Vegas.
Pokerfuse provided earlier context from GOAT III in 2021, describing it as a 204-event championship with 1.4 million Sweeps Coins, or $1.4 million, and 630 million Gold Coins in prizes. That report said the opening freeroll, weekend pop-up freerolls and two Tournaments of Champions on Aug. 15 were part of the format.
It also laid out Global Poker’s sweepstakes model. Players buy Gold Coins for play, receive an equal amount of Sweeps Coins as a gift, and can redeem SC for real money, while Gold Coins cannot be exchanged for cash.
Pokerfuse said Global Poker was one of the few legally operating online poker rooms offering real cash prizes across the United States, although it did not accept players from Washington. The operator’s championship season leaned on that model, using Gold Coin events for trophies and branded merchandise and Sweeps Coin events for money prizes.
