Virtual Gaming Worlds will close LuckyLand Slots on September 14, after a phased wind-down that begins on August 3. From then, players can no longer buy Gold Coins. Gameplay ends on August 24, and all Sweeps Coin redemption requests must be submitted before the final cutoff.
Sweepsy reported that VGW has already begun notifying players. The company said the decision follows eight years of LuckyLand Slots and reflects a shift toward LuckyLand Casino, Chumba Casino, Global Poker and Monopoly Match.
The closure will not affect VGW’s other products. Gaming America noted that LuckyLand Slots and LuckyLand Casino share a brand name but operate as separate platforms, and that balances will not move between them. Sweepsy reported that players cannot transfer Gold Coins or Sweeps Coins to another VGW platform.
LuckyLand Casino launched in November last year, when VGW said it was still weighing options for LuckyLand Slots.
Gaming America described the move as part of a broader pattern of VGW pulling back in the United States. It said the company has withdrawn its dual-currency products from more than ten states over the past two years, and that Kentucky’s attorney general sued VGW and prediction market platforms last month.
The shutdown comes after a leadership shake-up. VGW confirmed on July 3 that founder Laurence Escalante’s resignation as chief executive and executive chairman took immediate effect, and said his leave followed charges filed against him in Western Australia. IGamingToday said Mats Johnson will remain acting chief executive while the company searches for a permanent successor.
